“Love, social awareness, and above all, gratitude were felt by the 70 tenth-grade students and teachers from Emilio Valenzuela School, who volunteered today at the Centro de Vida in Tocancipá.
The volunteering day began early in the morning with the delivery of a generous donation of hygiene items brought by the students from home. The students were then divided into eight groups, rotating through various activities interacting with the children, such as music, skin hydration, storytelling, and taking the children in their strollers and wheelchairs to the Ecoparque Sabana. Additionally, they helped fold clothes in the laundry and went to the nursery at the Ecoparque Sabana to learn about and participate in the processes of planting and germinating seeds in the sustainable garden led by Andrés Soler from the Fundación Parque Jaime Duque.
This emotional volunteering activity allowed the students to closely experience a reality that initially felt foreign to them. By the end of the day, they shared their impressions and feelings about how their expectations were met during the visit and how many opportunities opened up for what can be done for children and young people with disabilities.
“A very beautiful experience that allowed me to learn about inclusion through direct contact in the activities we developed and to become more humane,” said one of the students. Others expressed their satisfaction with earning a smile and highlighted the admirable work done with love by the staff at this center. Thanks to this great team of volunteers for their always willing and open attitude, for helping us transform lives, and for allowing us to be a source of inspiration for young people, achieving our goal of life conservation together.”
