“Blankets, hats and mittens arrived as if they had fallen from the sky for the elderly street dwellers beneficiaries of Casa de la Esperanza (The House of Hope Shelter), to alleviate the cold weather of the capital city. This was thanks to the social service project of solidarity knitting of Anglo Colombian School, with the support of the knitting group La Tejesion and the knitters of the Manta de la Solidaridad (Solidarity Blanket).

The association between the community, youngsters, elderly people, teachers and neighbors who decided to knit squares which were subsequently kitted together by the Knitters of the Solidarity Blanket, resulted in 50 kits which were delivered by Ana Osorio and Nora Hilarión, from The Tejesion and Carmenza Kafarela, Director of Manta de la Solidaridad.

Hugs and expressions of gratitude filled each one of the corners of the house with joy. For more than two decades, Casa de la Esperanza has provided a clean bed, food and a decent roof for elderly people who used to live in the streets downtown Bogotá.

Thank you for this initiative that, through knitting with passion, makes it possible for many hearts to get together around a social cause which is to bring back hope and impact the lives of elderly people in vulnerable conditions in the capital city.”
