“International Volunteers are one of the biggest strengths of our organization. We want to take this opportunity to highlight the valuable work done by Lena Overtopp, who arrived five months ago from Stuttgart, Germany. It is her first time in our country.
Lena, a young woman who is 18 years old, finished high school and wants to study pharmacy. She has decided to devote one year to serve the children and elderly people beneficiaries of our organization as her older sister did in Bolivia. Her dedication and devotion have earned her the affection of the children and staff in our organization. Lena, arrives with a smile on her face every day to Hogar Santa Rita de Cascia. She spoke little Spanish but her perseverance and desire to learn brought her to be the person responsible for taking inventory of every donation received last December.
This cheerful and responsible young woman enjoys playing with the children, helping with the decoration, and laundry work at the Nursing Home. Thanks to the agreement with AFS Agency we are fortunate to have her in our organization for a year. During this time, she will live with a Colombian family and will have the opportunity to travel as a tourist around Colombia.
Our “Volunteers in action. Changing the World” program grows every day and it is spreading around the world. We now have an allied organization: Friends of Angels in Germany, which was started by volunteers who had visited our organization. Friends of Angels has been supporting our programs for 3 years. During 2024 we received 8 international volunteers from the United States and Europe and this year we expect to receive many more volunteers who wish take action with their desire to serve the most vulnerable communities in Colombia.”
