“The final presentations of the projects by the intern students pursuing the Industrial Engineering and Bioengineering programs at Universidad Javeriana who developed their social work internship at Hogar Santa Rita de Cascia (Saint Rita of Cascia Nursing Home) were delivered in an ambient of emotion and satisfaction.
This time, Bioengineering students applied their knowledge and skills to design and furnish a walker which includes harnesses to strap the child through a belt adjustment system while being ergonomical and functional, thus continuing with the project that had started the previous semester. Additionally, they presented a proposal to furnish a chair, with the corresponding user manual, to be used by the physical therapist.
On the other hand, Industrial Engineering students focused their efforts towards improving the inventory control system for our pantries in the Bogotá and Tocancipá seats. They began by updating the date base, prepared a flow chart for our “Cadena de Bondad” (Kindness Chain) program which receives and delivers donations, together with the corresponding user manual thus impacting on one of the most important processes inside our organization.
We extend our gratitude to these two groups of youngsters, led by Engineers Marcela CAMARGO and Clara Mabel SOLANO, for their willingness and devotion, not only for devoting time to the development of these projects that bring great transformation to the lives of our children, but also for them bringing joy to the children through their puppet workshop, their participation in the Children’s Day, their donations and their support for us to organize our pantries.
Thanks to these very important contributions, our children will be able to strengthen their capacities with the walker that will make their movement easier, help with their balance and motor development during the physical therapy sessions and facilitate their interactions with other children.
Likewise, our administration area for the pantries will have better control over the inventories thanks to the tool designed by students for this specific purpose. We are fortunate to receive different groups of youngsters, future engineers, every semester. They come full of dreams and initiatives that, little by little, have come to life, thanks to the great association with the Social Projection internship in the School of Engineering of Universidad Javeriana, which allows us to improve our processes and the quality of life of more than 100 beneficiary children.”
