One of the most significant moments for the Project Union Foundation is when their homes and programs open to welcome international volunteer angels, who come from far away to put their desire to help into action and whom sometimes come for a month and end up staying for up to a year. The experience is enriching not only for them but also for us, as each of them has left an imprint on the children and their hearts connected to the Project Union family.
\n2020 was a year in which children and we missed our international volunteers because of the pandemic, however this year, some of them pleasantly surprised us with their unexpected visit to our home Santa Rita de Cascia. This is the case of Paula Schoofs, a young woman from Belgium, who volunteered with us for three months at the end of 2019. Her joy, her desire to serve and above all her affection for all the children were the input to strengthen that bond with Colombia, which made her return, this time, to visit the family that hosted her during her volunteer work and the whole Project Union Family. A beautiful and emotional reunion happened last week when Paula had the opportunity to carry the babies back in the house and share with the professionals in the pedagogy area and the whole team.
\nOn the other hand, Laura Sedlbauer, a volunteer from Germany, who spent a year at the foundation, also came to visit us on a surprise day and accompany us for a few days. Laura makes her profession a tool of love and progress because, as a physiotherapist, she contributed her knowledge to the benefit of the children of the foundation. On this occasion she found progress in them and received the hugs and smiles she already missed, which she earned thanks to the special affection and love she always gave us.
